Ten minutes with Remi Rough

Firstly, how are you feeling today?
Feeling good today. The Foxes didn’t keep me up for a change so I slept well...

What did you have for breakfast?
I had a cup of hot water and lemon and a nectarine. I’m not huge on breakfast but always have a little something.

What kind of workspace do you have? Can we see?
I have an 600 square foot studio in Elephant and Castle.

You love angular straight lines, tell us more.
I like perfection and I guess thats what I’m trying to achieve with my work whilst still maintaining a perspective of painting. I did graffiti for years and the work I make now is a culmination of all the things I learnt within that culture and all the things I have learnt since outside of it.

What about wiggly lines? Not a fan?
I love circles… I have done some work which I think may surprise you.

Who is your favourite street artist?
Margaret Calvert.

What was the best day in your life? Or art life? Or both.
Probably the day my daughter was born. She’s almost twenty now but still as gorgeous as ever.

What's your favourite colour?
Neon pink.

Why did you decide to do a piece on the back of an envelope for Brain Appeal?
Because I was asked nicely and it seemed like a valuable project to be a part of.

What are you doing tonight?
I am going to a private view at OHSH Gallery in Peckham. Fabulous gallery run by lovely people who really care about art and artists.
